In December 2020 both CMS and ONC Released a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) to support the Patients access to their medical records.
CMS’s rule spelled out access via Application Programming Interfaces (API) and to improve prior authorization. HHS rule modifies HIPAA Privacy to remove barriers to patient access, improve care coordination, and reduce regulatory burden. Both rules have a 60-day comment period.
